West is located in Central Texas just north of Waco.
Founded in 1882 just after the completion of the KATY railroad, West became
a very successful railroad town. The surrounding farms still produce an abundance
of wheat, maize, corn and cotton. Along with settlers from the East came Czech and
German immigrants who found the surrounding fertile land to be similar to what they
were familiar with back home.
You will find our friendly community to be the perfect blend of small-town hospitality
and large city progressiveness. Residents and visitors find many advantages to our rural
community. Its small enough that you know your neighbors and large enough to provide
amities found in larger communities. The schools are excellent, the activities are
abundant and the involvement by the business community is superior to other towns of our
size.
The downtown area of West offers many businesses and shops and is most known for its Czech
bakeries, Czech gift shops and antique stores. For the I-35 travelers, West hosts several
bakeries and the brand new Czech Inn of West.
The West Chamber of Commerce office is located inside the renovated MKT Depot.
The Depot was returned to the City of West after an absence for several years.
The Chamber of Commerce organizes the business community of West providing
benefits specifically to businesses and to the City of West as a whole.
It is governed by a 9 member elected Board of Directors, who volunteer their time
and energy to planning activities to boost trade in the businesses in West.
